What on earth is a fallout?

Fallout consists of little particles of iron, steel or other metals which are airborne and unfortunately land on your vehicle. Fallouts can be found more commonly in industrial areas, near railway lines and busy roads. Braking produces fallout dust so that heavy traffic increases the fallout dust that clings to your vehicle.

Fallouts contamination is a problem most people are not aware of until the damage due to it starts to show. Almost all cars have some sort of fallout contamination, even the cars that get a regular washing.

When it rains or when it gets wet the metal particles or the fallout contaminants begin to rust. Thus after a carwash, if the contaminants are not removed, the problem actually worsens. Without knowing it contented car owners think the car wash resulted in a clean car but actually only the dirt and grime were removed. Some of metal particles are left behind. The particles once attached are extremely difficult to remove. They will not just wash off. This is a big problem since the acid produced when they rust slowly eats through the lacquer and paintwork.

Because of this it is very important that you make sure that fallout contaminants are removed from your vehicle regularly.There are two common methods of fallout removal:

• Give the car an acid bath.
• Use a clay bar with special chemicals that acts like a rubber or eraser.

Both of these methods take time as after the panels have been treated they still need to be machine polished. The removal is however worth it since if left untreated fallout will seriously damage your car.

To see if fallout is present in your car simply wash and leather your car and when dry run your hand over the panels. If it is rough or you if you can feel some tiny bumps you car probably has fallout contamination.
