Stone Chip Repair
Getting stone chips on your vehicle is unavoidable. It is a very common sight on vehicles and leads to bigger problems such as rust. To protect your vehicle from further damage any chips should always be repaired as quickly as possible.
There are various ways to repair stone chips the most common being the touch up stick. A major problem of vehicle repair services in Halfords is that their brushes or touch up sticks are usually too large to make a proper repair. We at Proprep do not have this kind of problem because we use an artist brush.
Once we have determined your car’s paint code we then mix the paint to match the paint to your vehicles exterior paint colour. We then paint over the chip and add a tiny bit of lacquer to gradually build up the chip. Once the lacquer has dried the chip is flattened and polished.
A stone chip repaired this way does not result in a totally flawless exterior. Although it is not an invisible repair it is sufficient to take the eye off the damage making it much less evident. More importantly a stone chip repair ensures that the area is protected from rusting.
If the chipped area is on the bumper and is quite extensive then the best method of repair is to paint the section in the same way as a bumper scuff. A bumper scuff repair will result to a more flawless exterior paint repair and will also protect the chipped bumper from rusting.
Door edges are also common areas where paint gets chipped off and are usually easy to repair.
Stone chips repairs usually cost around £20 but can cost a bit more depending on the extent of the chips.
